Charley Chau is a Cheshire-based maker of luxury dog bedding, although the range has expanded somewhat since the company1 launched in 2010.
That said, Charley Chau’s main focus remains luxury bedding, in the shape of cocoon-like nests, wicker and rattan baskets, and stunning blankets that will comfort your dog as well as complement your home. And if there’s one thing your dog wants, it’s a comfortable place to rest. Okay, so a couple of treats while he’s lying in the lap of luxury wouldn’t go amiss either.
Charley Chau was born when founders Christine and Jenny Chau became frustrated with existing offerings in the dog bedding market. Christine, a self-confessed amateur sewer, hand-stitched what was to become the company’s signature product, the Snuggle Bed. After posting a photo on Facebook Christine was inundated with requests to make the basket. The sisters then set off on a journey to find suitable UK manufacturers.
The company is named for the sisters’ dog, Charley, the product tester in chief, who is ably assisted by Anna, Tino and Theo, the sisters’ other Italian greyhounds, and some of their friends.
The founders say: “Charley Chau is a small business, but our customer base is growing all the time, with happy campers enjoying their Charley Chau beds and blankets not just in the UK but in over 25 countries around the world world. We like to think of it as spreading the Charley love!”
Charley Chau beds are priced from £45, fleece blankets from £38, pure new wool blankets from £30 and luxury faux-fur blankets from £60.
Sounds like Roma’s lumpy old bed is long past its use-by date.
Charley Chau’s luxury soft dog bedding is made in England, and available via the website.
